Other Guanacaste Hiking Areas
Guanacaste National Park
Guanacaste National Park´s main attraction is a good hike. There are several trails crossing the different ecosystems, as you climb from the tropical dry forest near the border with the Santa Rosa National Park, to the cloud forests near the peaks of Orosi and Cacao Volcanoes. You may also cross the continental divide and hike to the tropical rainforest in the Caribbean side.
Santa Rosa National Park
There are plenty of great trails in Santa Rosa. Maps are provided at the ranger station.
Barra Honda Caverns National Park
The hiking trails that lead to the caverns are perfect for exploring one of the least common habitats in the world, the dry forest. If you´re lucky, you can get to see howler monkeys, deer, raccoons, anteaters and other species up close.
Carara National Park
Carara is a great place to stop off for a quick hike on a trip up or down the Pacific Coast. There are 2 hiking trails: the first one about 1 km south of the bridge near the ranger station, and a second short trail – a loop that starts and ends at the Quebrada Bonita station.
