Bosque Diriá Wildlife Refuge

 

Diría refuge is located 12 miles south from Santa Cruz; it is a 2840 hectare area protecting the rivers Enmedio, Diría and Tigre.

 The refuge was first simply a protected zone but in 1993 it became a wildlife refuge. In the area there have been found over 200 different species of plants and some of them are endangered species. The intriguing fauna of the park consists of monkeys, deer, foxes, reptiles and snakes among others.

 The major harmful issues in the area are forest fires, illegal hunting and the looting of the archaeological site.
