Lomas Barbudal Biological Reserve

The 2279-hectare Lomas Barbudal Biological Reserve is located in the north of Liberia. The reserve is also called “Insect Park” due to the tremendous amount of different species: about 240 insects have been found and in addition 60 species of moths.

When the rain comes; there certainly is action with the mosquitoes. Besides insects, at the reserve area there are also mammals such as monkeys, some reptiles and various fish. In the area there are different types of forests: the dry tropical forest of the reserve is large and endangered mahogany and redwood trees grow here. There is also evergreen forest close to water resources and streams of the river Cabuya and some wooded savanna.

During dry season, the most sensible trees drop their leaves which make bird watching easy. By far 130 species of birds have been identified.
