Gulf of Papagayo

The Gulf of Papagayo is a newly expanding area.  In the last decade, many large and luxurious resorts have risen in the region.  However, it’s still a beautifully untamed gulf where people can experience the nature at its fullest.  Papagayo is also an enchanting experience for those seeking relaxation and fun.

Tamarindo

Tamarindo is Guanacaste’s largest coastal center and is frequented by foreigners from all over the world.  It has all the amenities of a Costa Rican beach town – surf, sand, sun and a bustling nightlife.  Even though this amazing town has become a Mecca for surfers, Tamarindo is also a favorite for eco-travelers.    It is surrounded by National Parks to its north and south, as well as mountains with abundant nature.

Samara Beach

Samara Beach is one of the purest beaches in Costa Rica and is considered to be one of the most beautiful areas in Guanacaste.  The beach has been presented with the highly regarded Blue Flag Award, given to only the cleanest and best preserved beaches in the country.
Playa Samára itself is beautiful enough, but if you venture just slightly further, you’ll find other stunning and least developed beaches such as Playa Carrillo and Playa Barrigona.

Santa Rosa National Park

The beaches here in the northwest corner of Costa Rica are perhaps the best option to get away from it all.  From the central ranger station, you can drive or hike 13 km (8 miles) to reach these incredible beaches.  Once there, you’ll find only the most basic camping facilities and you’ll have this entire natural paradise almost to yourself.

Coco Beach

Coco Beach, known as Playas del Coco, is one of Costa Rica’s most popular beaches.  It’s one of the largest villages in Guanacaste, with great infrastructure and plenty of hotels, restaurants, bars and shops.  Playas del Coco is a favorite for both tourists and locals looking for ongoing party beach-style.
